FaunaMap: Birdwatching

With FaunaMap, discover what other birdwatchers are seeing nearby and add your own bird sightings to the map. Share photos with the community, get help identifying species and watch your personal species list grow.

Whether you're new to birdwatching or have years of birding behind you, FaunaMap helps you keep your wildlife discoveries in one place. Take it on a walk close to home, a day exploring a new birdwatching spot or a birding trip abroad.

Explore bird sightings on one map
See at a glance where other users have recently spotted birds. Explore your local area or holiday destination and discover which species have been reported. Find inspiration for your next walk and new places to go birdwatching.

Identify birds by sound
Hear birdsong or a call you can't place? Let FaunaMap listen and explore the suggested species. Sound identification helps you work out which bird might be singing or calling. Useful when you can hear a bird but can't yet see it.

Identify a bird from a photo
Take a photo or choose one from your gallery. Photo identification helps you work out the species. Get help identifying an unfamiliar bird you've photographed in the garden, on a walk or while travelling.

Keep a record of your bird sightings
Log a sighting in just a few steps. Select the species, save the location and add a photo if you like. Build a personal birding journal where your observations are easy to find and share. From a familiar garden bird to a special discovery on a birding trip, keep a record of what you encounter.

Join an active birdwatching community
Share your photos, follow other birders and comment on their sightings. Unsure about a species? Ask the community for help and learn from each other's experience. Find ideas for new places to explore and share your own knowledge and discoveries.

Offline in nature: maps and GPX routes
Download maps ahead of time to use them without an internet connection. You can also log sightings with FaunaMap when you have no signal. Import a GPX file to view your walking route on the map, follow your route as you go birdwatching and check that you're still on track.

Record your adventure, solo or together
Keep your route, sightings and discovered species together in a trip. Heading out with friends or fellow birders? Start a shared trip and see each other's discoveries in the trip feed and on the map. Share your live location if you choose. Follow each other's sightings along the way and look back at the species you found afterwards.

Watch your species list grow
Keep track of the species you've seen worldwide, by country or by location. Revisit your bird sightings and watch your personal species list grow, from your first observation to that special species you've always hoped to find. You can record the mammals you encounter too.
