Description
Are you a fish lover? Observing the fish in the water, the market or just being curious? Then the FishBase Guide developed by Q-quatics in collaboration with Mundus maris, and with support from Fair Fish International, the Sea Around Us, and the Belgian Decade Committee, is the app to have.
Type in your country, language, and the name of the fish you have in front. The app will show you the minimum size at maturity; that is the size at which the fish is big enough to start reproducing. You’ll also see the optimum size – to produce the maximum catch sustainably. You might be surprised about the maximum size. The fish icon with traffic light colours shows you its status on the IUCN Red List, where "threatened" embraces the categories of Critically Endangered, Endangered, and Vulnerable; together with “near threatened” these categories are signalled in red.
Want to know more or share an observation? Click on the link to the full summary of the species in FishBase. It can work for you whether you are a fisher, trader, buyer, teacher or ‘just’ a fish lover. Easy. Enjoy.
Recent changes: This version includes an update to the species data with fixes for improved filtering and display, and language support using customized translation.
The initial search can now accept either a common name used in the selected country and elsewhere, or a scientific name (valid or even synonyms still in use) of the species recorded for the selected country.

I'm so happy that Fish Base decided to make an app. Studying fishes, I use their database often. I am really excited to see where the app goes from here. I am hoping that at one point, they will give an "international" option under the "choose a country" tab to view all areas around the globe, so that we can see all the fishes without having to switch locations, similar to the website. But more user-friendly than the website. Overall, fantastic app. I am excited for future updates and tweaks.

Very disappointing. Crashed immediately. "Oops there are no available species in your selected country"
