The sms world edition works well for receiving verification codes overseas.

All positive except it doesn't ring unless I have recently used and opened the app on my phone. I checked my settings and I do have my phone set to allow fongo to display over other apps, but it doesn't ring. So bummer, but it has worked in the past better than text now and until fongo that was the best alternate texting free calling second number app

3* for application but 5* for very useful service. There's no billing. You just buy credits and use them. No details on where your credits were spent or how much each call cost.

Fongo has been very handy for making local phone calls while travelling in the UK/EU when my mobile only has a data plan. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is sometimes when I dial a phone number, it does not always connect the 1st try, just dead air, and I need to restart the app to get it to hang up, so I can redial.

Extremely intrusive adds. Even if you pay for unlimited texting, they want you to pay extra to remove it.
★☆☆☆☆Beckie Kuefler· Aug 31, 2026
Beyond Frustrating! I use fongo for my work number and It's no longer reliable enough. I keep getting error messages when texting local numbers (numbers that I contact regularly) that my package doesn't support that number. If I ask them to text me first it will usually work. I did an update, and it helped for a while but it's doing it again and there are no new updates. Forget their "support" as it is 3rd party, and you need to pay for it.

Keeps connecting forever, and pretty cumbersome to use, especially when receiving a call. Also found out that even though calls to the US are 1 cent per minute, fongo still charges you a connection fee of 4 cents 👎
