Description
Altimeter is an handy Android application allowing you to get the true altitude above sea level (MSL) at your current location or any location on earth. It requires access to your device location to get raw altitude from the GPS signal and do not require a network connection to work. True altitude above mean sea level is determined using EGM96 Earth Gravitational Model. Main features are :
• Offline true altitude above sea level • No network required (works offline and in flight mode) • True altitude above sea level (AMSL using EGM96) • Ordnance Survey National Grid reference system (OSGB36) • Use Barometer or GPS Satellite • Address at current location • Save altitude at location • Altitude accuracy estimation • Horizontal accuracy estimation • Altitude at any location • Pick location on a Map • Open photo geotags to display associated altitude • Search for a location by name or address • Universal Transverse Mercator coordinates (UTM) • Military Grid Reference System coordinates (MGRS) • Home screen widget to display altitude at current position
Network access is required to get the altitude of a location picked from the map.
Height above mean sea level (AMSL) is the elevation (on the ground) or altitude (in the air) of an object, relative to the average sea level datum. Normal GPS elevation considers the entire Earth as an ellispoid and differences up to 100 metres (328 feet) can exist between this ellipsoid height and true mean tidal height. The alternative, which is what we use in this application, is a geoid-based vertical datum such as the global EGM96 model.
Altitude vertical accuracy is defined at 68% confidence. Specifically, as 1-side of the 2-sided range above and below the estimated altitude reported, within which there is a 68% probability of finding the true altitude.

Excellent. After an operation on my eye, my eye was filled with an inert gas, this app allowed me to monitor and control the amount of altitude I was exposed to and prevent the gas from over expanding the eyeball when atmospheric pressure decreased.

Simple to use and very accurate. I'm in Santa Fe working temporarily and wanted to see how high I was as breathing is not the same the higher or lower where your located. It was easy and fast to set up. Great app.

Installed a couple of weeks ago on a new Samsung S26 Ultra. I received a warning this morning that the app was "using too many background resources" and causing my "battery to remain warm." I immediately uninstalled the app. It works but asks for A LOT of permissions, but I'm not having it causes battery drain or a warm battery in the background.

Doesn't work unless I "allow targeting and data collection" or "switch to the full version" (pay). Can't even try it out before paying (so who would be stupid enough pay for something that cannot be tried/viewed first?) can't even get to the main menu, unless I accept/consent to this nonsense. So what's the point of the "manage options" setting in the consent form? App doesn't work for me, instant uninstallation.

This is a data-harvesting app. You can only use the app in exchange for giving them your private data. If you turn that off, you're blocked permanently unless you give in or buy an upgrade. You cannot go back and allow just targeting (for ads) based on your travel or consumer choices. The data options page is long and deceptive. It neither separates out ad-targeting from private personal data nor informs users that their app will be bricked if they opt out of certain consents. An app to avoid.

Read the reviews, installed it, read their privacy policy. No way ("we may collect, use, share and sell sensitive personal data...") You have to agree to that before you can choose to opt out of it! Not happening. 2 stars simply because it is clear to read it, but still no way.
