Gains Official

Energy Cost Planner shows what the electrical appliances in your home use and what that costs at your own tariff — and the gains you can make by changing how you use them. List what you plug in, copy the unit rate and standing charge from your bill, and see an estimate per day, week, month and year.

It is a calculator that works on your figures. The app contains no energy prices and never goes online, so nothing in it goes out of date and nothing you enter leaves your phone.

YOUR HOME AND APPLIANCES
• Create a profile for your home, or several homes
• Add appliances with their power in watts, hours of use and days a week
• Start from a list of common appliances with typical values, then correct them from the rating plate
• Enter washing machines and dishwashers by kWh per cycle, and fridges and freezers by the kWh per year on their energy label
• Allow for appliances that cycle on and off, such as fridges and heaters with a thermostat
• Count standby power and the months in which an appliance is used at all

• Keep a log of meter readings, with one reading or separate day and night readings
• See what you really used between readings next to what your appliance list predicts
