EU IHI (Innovative Health Initiative) Research Project

This app is exclusively for pre-registered participants in an EU Horizon Health research study conducted by Active Ageing Association. Access requires screening and informed consent.

Android Phone App Securely collects health data via Samsung Health Data SDK: • Exercise & Steps: Physical activity tracking • Heart Rate: Cardiovascular analysis • Sleep: Sleep quality and health correlations • Nutrition: Nutritional intake analysis

Wear OS Watch App Collects physiological sensor data from Galaxy Watch devices via Samsung Sensor SDK.

Health Connect Permissions

READ_HEART_RATE Purpose: Collect heart-rate and inter-beat interval (IBI) data.

Research Use: For analyzing heart-rhythm patterns and detecting arrhythmias like Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). Enables identification of pulse irregularities to advance cardiovascular health understanding in older adults.

Participant Benefit: Participants advance research on early detection and prevention of heart-rhythm disorders, improving screening strategies for older adults.

Necessity: Essential and cannot be removed without compromising the study's primary cardiovascular research objectives.

READ_SKIN_TEMPERATURE Purpose: Collect skin-temperature sensor readings from the wearable device.

Research Use: Analyzes temperature changes and trends, establishing correlations with physiological measurements (heart rate, SpO2). Reflects thermoregulation, stress responses related physiological conditions.

Participant Benefit: Help researchers understand how temperature regulation correlates with other health markers, identifying new wellness indicators and health concerns.

Necessity: Essential for comprehensive physiological profiling. Temperature combined with cardiovascular and stress data provides a complete health status picture.

In-App Permission Prompt: When participants log in for the first time, the app displays a permission prompt for health data (Heart Rate, Skin Temperature) that clearly explains the data is collected only for the agreed user trial in selected hospitals. Access is requested only after participants read this explanation.

Additional Permissions USE_EXACT_ALARM: Delivers scheduled daily study reminders at precise research protocol times. Participants depend on reminders for consistent, on-time data collection.

Sensor Data (Non-Health-Connect) PPG/ECG: Raw photoplethysmography data for heart-rate and blood-flow analysis BIA/MBIA: Bioelectrical impedance for body-composition analysis

Privacy & Informed Consent • Voluntary participation with informed consent explaining study purpose, risks, benefits, and data use • Data handled per GDPR and human-subject research requirements with ethical review approval • Encrypted in transit and at rest; secure server storage; accessible only to authorized personnel under confidentiality agreements • Data retained per informed-consent agreement; withdrawal allowed at any time
