Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons God has given us, and looking ahead at 2020, I believe it has never been more important for God’s people to be on our knees. But knowing how to pray is not always easy. Jesus’ disciples felt the same confusion. They were familiar with the oft-repeated prayers of the Torah. But Jesus prayed with a kind of authority and power they had never seen before — as though God was listening! So when they came to Jesus, as told in Matthew 6, they didn’t say, “Teach us another prayer.”

As a chaplain in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, Bounds initiated weekly prayer sessions to strengthen the spiritual state of his local area. We all fail to understand the incredible honor and resource that is available to us in prayer. God, the Creator of the cosmos, the Sustainer of all life and matter, the writer of all history and future events, invites you to come and share your heart with Him. How insane is that?!? You! Little, old you!!! What would you say to Him? What would you share? What would you ask of Him?
