HSK4Mastery is an offline Chinese vocabulary learning app designed for HSK Levels 1–4. It provides a focused, distraction-free environment for building, practicing, and reviewing essential Mandarin words and phrases. The app is fully self-contained: all vocabulary, audio, and learning features are bundled within the app, so you can use it anywhere, even in airplane mode. No account, sign-in, or internet connection is required.
Core Features
1. Complete HSK 1–4 Vocabulary, Offline
- The app includes 1,200 words: 150 for HSK 1, 150 for HSK 2, 300 for HSK 3, and 600 for HSK 4.
- All vocabulary is stored locally in a private on-device database, seeded from bundled JSON files on first launch.
- Each word entry includes hanzi (Chinese characters), pinyin, and English meaning. Many words also include example sentences and audio.
2. Intuitive Navigation and Layout
- Five main sections: Vocab, Review, Practice, Listen, and Progress, accessible via a bottom navigation bar.
- Consistent top bars and dropdowns for level selection.
- Clean, light-themed interface with clear typography and color-coded comfort levels.
3. Vocabulary List and Detail
- Browse words by HSK level, with instant switching between levels.
- Each word card shows hanzi, pinyin, meaning, and your comfort level (Unfamiliar, Getting There, Confident).
- Tap a word to see detailed information: character breakdown, example sentences, audio playback, and a handwriting practice canvas.
- Mark your comfort level for each word, which feeds into your progress and review scheduling.
4. Spaced Repetition Review
- Built-in spaced repetition system (SRS) schedules words for review based on your answers.
- Review sessions present cards in three modes: Character, Meaning, and Listening.
- Mark each card as Wrong, Correct, or Mastered to update your learning schedule.
- Struggling Words and Due for Review decks help you focus on high-priority items.
5. Practice Sentence Construction
- Two practice modes: Translation Challenge (build a sentence from a translation clue) and Pure Scramble (reorder tokens without a clue).
- Tap tokens to build your answer, check correctness, reset, or fetch a new puzzle.
- Practice is level-specific and adapts to your comfort with words.
6. Listening Practice
- Create custom playlists by HSK level and word range, or use presets (First 50, Next 50, Random 20).
- Audio for words and sentences is played directly from bundled assets—no streaming required.
- Adjustable playback speed (0.5x, 0.75x, 1.0x) for flexible listening practice.
7. Progress Tracking
- Visualize your progress for each HSK level: see how many words you’ve marked as Confident.
- Overall stats show counts for Mastered, Reviewed, Learning, and Unseen words.
- All progress is stored locally and never leaves your device.
How It Works
- On first launch, the app seeds its database from packaged files. No network calls are made.
- All features work offline, including audio playback and review scheduling.
- Your learning state (comfort levels, review history) is saved on-device. Clearing app data or uninstalling resets your progress.
