Description by Shane Morris Written by the developer, not by AppBrain. Click to read.
Infinite Cosmos puts a real universe in your pocket: 335,000 stars, 45,000 galaxies and every known planet around another star, each one placed where it really is, and the planets and moons on their real orbits for today's date.
★ THE LIGHT YOU'RE SEEING
Arrive anywhere and the screen clears to tell you how old its light is. The light we see from Betelgeuse set off around 1478, during the Wars of the Roses. The light from the Andromeda Galaxy left 2.5 million years ago, as our ancestors made the first stone tools. Looking out into space is looking back in time.
★ OVER HALF A MILLION REAL OBJECTS
• Every star the Gaia space telescope found within 326 light years of the Sun: 335,000 stars in their true positions, including every star you can see without a telescope
• Over 10,000 galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, including every Messier and Caldwell object
• The cosmic web: 43,000 galaxies mapped in 3D, out to over a billion light years. Fly out far enough and you can see the filaments and empty voids the universe is built from
• Every known planet around another star with a measured distance: 6,570 planets in 4,899 systems
• 133,000 real asteroids moving on their true orbits
• Every known moon in the solar system, all 459, each going round its planet on its real orbit
• Over 4,000 comets where they really are today, including one-time visitors leaving the solar system for good
• 296 black holes: nearly 80 in and around our galaxy, including the "sleeping" ones Gaia found, and the giants at the hearts of galaxies, up to 21 billion times the mass of the Sun
• Quasars, the spacecraft we've sent beyond the planets, and the oldest light in the universe
★ GUIDED TOURS, NARRATED
Sit back and be flown through it all, with a British narrator:
• Earth to the Edge of Everything
• The Solar System
• Black Holes
• Is Anybody Out There?
• The Life and Death of Stars
★ YOUR LOGBOOK
Stay somewhere for a moment and it goes in your Logbook as a collectable card. Complete 16 sets, find the rare ones, and share your favourite cards with friends.
★ YOUR BIRTHDAY STAR
Find the star whose light set off the year you were born, and is only reaching Earth now.
★ CALM BY DESIGN
Pinch on anything to head towards it, and drag two fingers to slide the view. Gentle music plays as you explore, and every arrival gets a quiet moment of its own. Open The Science on any world for the real numbers behind it.
