Kalmni: Secure Chat & Calls

Kalmni is a private messenger for secure, end-to-end encrypted chat, voice calls and video calls. It is built on peer-to-peer technology, so there is no phone number, no email address and no account to create.

Your messages and calls go straight from your phone to your contact's phone. Kalmni has no central message server that stores your conversations: contacts find each other through a distributed peer-to-peer network instead.

KEY FEATURES

End-to-end encrypted messages Chat privately with text and attachments. Messages are protected with the open-source Signal Protocol, so only you and your contact can read them.

Encrypted voice and video calls Call your contacts directly, in audio or video. Calls are encrypted and authenticated through your contact's identity, with front and rear camera switching, mute and speaker controls, and a full-screen incoming call screen even when your phone is locked.

No phone number, no email, no sign-up Your identity is created on your device. Add a contact by scanning their QR code, and share yours the same way.

Peer-to-peer and decentralized Contacts are discovered through the OpenDHT distributed network. No central server holds your messages, your contact list or your call history.

Messages delivered even when your contact is offline Messages wait securely and are delivered as soon as your contact comes back online. Delivery and read receipts show you where each message stands.

Encrypted storage on your device Your conversations, contacts and call history are stored in a local database encrypted with SQLCipher.

Call history and missed-call alerts See who called and when, and call back with one tap.

Your profile, your way Choose a name, a short bio and an avatar, and see your contacts' profiles.

Delete and reset conversations Delete messages, or reset a whole conversation with a contact.

Available in English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic, with full right-to-left support.

Kalmni contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDKs. It does not ask for your phone number, your email address or access to your phone contacts.

Kalmni is an independent project. It uses the open-source libsignal library but is not affiliated with or endorsed by Signal. Kalmni is a privacy-focused messenger, not an anonymity tool: as in any peer-to-peer app, your contacts' devices can see your IP address during calls. Kalmni is under active development, and your feedback helps shape it. Requires Android 9 or later.
