Description
Kentucky Discard is the official tournament version of the card game Rook (sometimes called Blackbird or Crows Nest).
Rook is a trick-taking game played with a specialized deck of cards. There are four players, each paired with a partner. There are 41 special cards numbered 5 thru 14. Cards are colored Black, Green, Red, and Yellow, and there is one special Bird card (called the rook card in rook).
In this free game, play live multiplayer games with friends or choose from 12 different AI characters, each programmed with different skill levels and playing styes.
Each "5" card is worth 5 points. The "10" and "14" cards are worth 10 points. The Bird card is worth 20 points. The other cards are not worth any points.
The deck gets dealt out to all players and five cards are placed into the center of the table called the nest.
After the deal, players bid on how many points they think their team will earn.
The high bidder gets to choose the trump color, pick-up the nest to improve their hand and then discard five unwanted cards.
The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and throws any card they want. The other players must then throw a card of the same color or the Bird card. If a player doesn't have any cards of the same color, they can play any card they want.
The highest card of the leading color wins the trick, unless a trump is played, in which case the highest trump wins. However, when the Bird card is played it always wins.
The player who takes the trick gets the points from any 5’s, 10’s, or 14’s collected, and 20 points for the Bird card if played. The player that takes the last trick in a round also captures the nest and gets any point cards in it.
Points collected by each team in the round get added to each team's total; however, if the high bidding team fails to make their bid, they forfeit any points collected and the full amount of their bid is subtracted from their score.
The first team to reach 300 points wins the game!

Much better than others Rook game out there. Issues: 1) 4*/5* opponents call trump, they sometimes lead with the 14 if they don't have the Rook, automatically giving up 30+ points, when they bid 90+.going set on the first trick. Either their bidding logic (not bid so high without the Rook) or the choice of which card to lead off with should be tweaked to be more realistic. 2) End of hand logic is flawed, opponent plays a 14 next to last/holding a 10 for last card...higher card should be last.

The game play is okay. I wish there were options for using the ones and little rook. Also, the computer generated partners and opponents are really lacking in the skills to make this a really fun game. I may be spoiled. I grew up watching my parents play t h e game with my aunt and uncle. Then as we grew older, my sisters and I played. It is close but not the same. The nuances and game play of experienced players is not there. For now, it will have to do.

Closest thing to a Rook game on the Play Store. Though I dislike the rules of play (Highest bidder doesn't always get to start; bird is always the highest card in the game) it still is an enjoyable and addictive pastime.

The game mechanics are fine. But the rule set absolutely sucks. When the bird card can be played at anytime (regardless of what color was lead), it takes most of the skill out of the game, and makes it pretty much impossible to bid without the bird. This game should adopt the house rules many people play with. 1. Don't allow the bird to play anytime. 2. Introduce the 1 cards as the top card of each color, worth 15 points. This would allow for much more strategy and a more enjoyable game.

I love the game of Rook, but the program needs better design. When I have the bid and my play clearly has the trick, my computer partner will stupidly play the Rook card over trumping me. Or, when I have taken a trick and am I waiting for said partner to heap on a 5 or 10 pointer to finish play, it plays a worthless card and plays point cards on the opponents trick. Very stupid design.
