Description
Leaf Spy Lite lets a Nissan Leaf owner view detailed information about their Leaf's battery by plugging in an inexpensive ELM-327 Bluetooth OBDII adapter into the standard OBDII port on the Leaf. ELM-327 Bluetooth adapters are available on eBay for around $10-$20 and one is required before Leaf Spy Lite can display information from your Leaf.
Due to a recent cost reduction (and feature reduction) many of the cheap ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapters from Asia no longer work with the Leaf and report themselves to be version 2.1. The only one currently recommended is the Bluetooth Konnwei KW902 which still supports all the needed ELM commands to communicate with the Leaf.

If you are thinking of purchasing a used Leaf this app can help you learn more about the battery's condition.
Leaf Spy Lite lacks the logging function of the full version "Leaf Spy". Depending on your phone screenshots can be used to save this information before you update to Leaf Spy. Leaf Spy Lite also lacks the Service menu features of the Leaf Spy Pro.
Although Leaf Spy Lite provides an easy and inexpensive way to learn more about your Leaf's battery it also serves as a way to verify if you have a working system before purchasing the full version of the app (Leaf Spy) which display much more information about your Leaf or the Leaf Spy Pro version that adds a number of service type functions.

If you are looking to purchase a used Leaf, this program is a must-have. I went to a car auction and examined 14 Leafs. I narrowed it down to three vehicles, all had all 12 battery bars shown on the dash. But with Leaf Spy, I was able to tell which car had more battery capacity remaining. The first bar doesn't disappear until the battery drops below 85%. The car with 90.96% battery had the same amount of bars as the 86.2% one. Since the range reported by the car depends on driving history, it isn't a reliable indication of actual battery capability. It can also tell you how many times the vehicle has been charged using the quick charger and how many times it been charged with the level 1 or level 2 charger. This is important because some maintain that too much quick charging can damage the battery, long term. Leaf Spy Lite only has two screens, but for my comparison shopping, it was enough. My only criticism is they use a lot of acronyms, probably to be able to fit all the info on the screen. SOH is State of Health = battery capacity. QCs is Quick Charge = number of quick charges. L1/L1 is a number of regular charges.

Good diagnostic tool This tool is really only ment to help configure the blue tooth obd2 adapter with your android device, only basic info available in the lite version, like SOC or state of charge, which is the measure of remaining battery power, GID, which can be used to calculate wattage (GID * .08 = kilowatts currently stored) battery temps and a graph of individual battery packs and how balanced in terms of voltage they are.

This works with a Samsung S21 and a Konnwei KW902 OBDII adapter. You need to be VERY CAREFUL to get a compatible OBDII adapter - the cheap ones don't work, get a KW902. Also, the Bluetooth link has problems with Apple phones, or so I hear. Get the Bluetooth paired before starting the app, and then select the adapter through the config menu, and it should work. The info is all there, but for the real stuff you need the Pro version which costs.

Not sure why, but it's not connecting to the dongle. Does only the Konnwei KW902 works with the app?. What abou the OBD Link MX or EX? Thanks

Not a good advert It needs to have more features and be easier to use if you want us to consider the pro version

Can't connect Samsung Galaxy 7 to Konnwei KE902. Keeps saying "socket closed". 2013 Leaf SL. Useless app and dongle. Do not buy.
