Mahakaleshwar Ujjain Temple

Shri Mahakaleshwar Mandir at Ujjain is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is unique for being a swayambhu (self-manifested) lingam — and the only Jyotirlinga that faces south (dakshinamukhi), considered the most powerful direction in tantric tradition. The temple is best known for the daily 4:00 AM Bhasma Aarti — the only Jyotirlinga where the deity is bathed with consecrated cremation-pyre ash, drawing devotees from across India.
