The NZ Tree app was developed as a joint project of the School of Science, the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, and altLAB at Auckland University of Technology.
The app comes with a user friendly ‘multiple choice’-type wizard, an A-Z species list and the option to capture, save and share your own sightings.

Love it! So comprehensive, and I love the A-Z by Māori/common/Latin/family name! I appreciate all the hard work that went into this. A suggestion would be to make it possible to search the Māori/common name without sensitivity to macarons.

Incomplete, and needs lots of work. Works best as a list of a dozen common trees you might encounter in New Zealand. Insufficient descriptors, photos. Identifier is complicated and has no wiggle room. That might be fine for an expert, but for the average person the identifying characteristics may be a bit fuzzy. So it's better to use a weighted identity system so that similar characteristics come up too after most correct ones. But this list really is missing a massive number of ssp & var

I find this a little hard to use. E.g. I wanted to find what a small tree similar to a Kochab was. I put in the leaf characteristics, and it came up with 2 species of Kochab... If you search Kochab under the list of all trees you see 2x Karabakh only. If you just scroll through the list, you see 3 of them. Plus the 2x Karabakh. Needs a bit of debugging.
