Description
OptOut is a free news aggregation app that brings you the best of independent media. Read, listen to, and watch news content from financially independent sources—news you won’t find anywhere else.
NEWS WITHOUT CORPORATE BIAS
All content comes from news outlets that are financially independent. No corporate owners. No institutional bias. No conflicts of interest.
OVERLOOKED STORIES THAT MATTER
We feature investigative reporting and stories about climate, democracy, justice, labor, and other important topics. We have a special focus on voices traditionally underrepresented in the media industry.
CURATED BY JOURNALISTS
A diverse team of experienced journalists hand-curates the news of the day, not corporate algorithms designed to boost profitable content.
PERSONALIZED EXPERIENCE
Follow outlets and individual journalists to create your own personalized feed.
PROTECTING YOUR DATA
OptOut respects your privacy by design and does not sell your preferences or browsing history to advertising firms.
A NONPROFIT RUN BY JOURNALISTS
This app is a project of the OptOut Media Foundation, a nonprofit charity founded and led by journalists, not Big Tech. We’re funded by grants and by you, our audience, not corporations or Wall Street.
Opt Out of the corporate media. Opt in to independent news you can trust.

★★★★★
I have found this app easy to use and to customize to my preferences for type of intake (written articles versus videos versus podcasts) and content areas. I look forward to more news organizations joining!
★★★★★
Needs more news outlets outside the US, such as the CBC, Popular Science, Toms Hardware. Better platform then Google News, needs more sources. None of the news outlets you currently have are relevant to me or my region.
★★★★★
This is one of the most comprehensive independent news sources out there, the only aggregate news app for independent media, and does not feature sponsored ads disguised as news. Featuring everything - from local, regional, statewide, and national to global affairs, Opt Out is an excellent source of news not influenced by big money. Gorgeous design and intuitive function. No identifying data collection, hoarding, or brokering. This is user-first tech. Well done!
★★☆☆☆
I wanted an unbiased, independent news feed which Opt Out supposedly is. However, the app is so poor with predominantly video feeds and no way to change to text only. Unusable for me, so I'm trying AP.
★★☆☆☆
The app description talks about "protecting your data", but the best way to do that is by not collecting it. How is my name, phone number, profile picture relevant to the news I might want to see? The developer claims the app does not collect any of this info, but that's not what the Privacy Policy says
★★☆☆☆
Immediately Uninstalled. It's a bunch of woke bs. I get enough of that from the msm.
