Description
PhotoGuru Media Player is designed to display photos and videos from various file- and photo hosting services on Android-based phones, tablets, smart TVs and set-top boxes. The intuitive and beautiful user interface gives users easy access to the photos and provides an inexpensive way to showcase photos, videos and media presentations in the most professional way possible. PhotoGuru is compatible with Google Android TV devices as well as Amazon’s FireTV media players. 4K/UHD rendering of images is supported on several high-end devices.
The app has been installed >200,000 times from the Google- and Amazon stores and is used in homes, offices and store fronts as well as by promoters during concerts and other events.
PhotoGuru Media Player can access photos and videos from the following cloud-based photo- and file hosting services: • Dropbox • Flickr • Google Drive • Google Photos • Local USB Sticks/drives • Microsoft OneDrive • SmugMug • UPnP/DLNA • Windows Server (Samba, CIFS) • WebDAV • Zenfolio
The app supports true 4K/UHD rendering of images on the following devices:
• FireTV 4K (small rectangular box released in 2015) • FireTV Stick 4K (released in 11/2018) • NVidia Shield (all versions) Due to hardware limitations, PhotoGuru does not support 4K rendering on the FireTV 4K dongle that was released in 11/2017.
The app is ad-free and does not cost anything. In order to keep it that way and to remove a trial message within the app, we ask you to purchase the module for the cloud-storage provider that you use for approximately $4.50. Proceeds are used to finance future development of the app and to purchase new equipment for testing.

The best gallery for Android TV and my Nvidia Shield hands down. Able to access a plethora of self-hosted and cloud-hosted server options.

I use this app on my Nvidia sheild Android TV to browse the photos and videos stored on my PC and display them on my 60-inch 4k TV via SMB. Has a lot of customization options and can also connect to Dropbox, OneDrive and some other cloud storage services and also supports DLNA/UPnP and a few other protocols and could connect directly to a NAS or media server. Android/Google TVs typically don't have a lot of storage, so this app can help with that.

The interface is not "beautiful" as advertised. Rather, it's difficult to figure out even after reading the manual. What is a "Laid Back Browser" for anyway? “Buffering...” is the message I see constantly when watching videos, whether the video is on a USB stick in the back of the TV, on a local network drive, or using one of the Cloud providers. I don't get that message with Photo Gallery and Screensaver, though that app is loaded with other issues. This is another Google Play app developed by a weekend developer, rather than something professionally designed, developed, and maintained.

Absolutely useless. Paid for Google Drive module last December, and now they want me to pay again, er No! Be wary of this!!!!!

Supposed to randomize the pictures, but it only randomizes the folder, then shows every picture in that folder. Contacted developer and no response.

It works well, but I came across this annoying bug that reset all image sources to default. So basically I had to re add my sources every time I use the app. Update: Dev, here's more details you asked for. I removed all the default sources (2 Flickr and 1 local storage), added my smb share, it connected and loaded images fine, front page showed smb source correctly, then I closed the app and launched it again, the smb source was gone and the default sources showed up. Please fix.
