This is THE foundational spriting app. Everything is pretty straightforward, and I was able to jump directly into drawing Game Boy sprites! It's got every basic tool I need and a pretty intuitive UI combined with a built-in tutorial to get you started. No data collection is *aces*. TBH I would have expected to spend at least a couple of bucks for this and still feel I got a deal, but it's free! I do wish the grid were more visible in darker color swatches, but that's it.
