Description
Rommel and Afrika Korps is a turn based strategy game which takes place in the North African theater during the Second World War. From Joni Nuutinen: by a wargamer for the wargamers since 2011. Most recent update: March 2026.
After the Italian forces collapse in North Africa, German HQ sends in German reinforcements, led by the famous Desert Fox Erwin Rommel. Soon, the German Africa Corps (known in Germany as Deutsches Afrikakorps, or DAK) springs from an assumed defensive setup to a lightning-fast attack across the barren desert area. In spite of serious logistics challenges caused by the overextended supply lines, Rommel manages to threaten the British strongholds of Cairo and Alexandria.
During the North African desert campaign, both sides are forced back and forth several times, but eventually the Axis supply troubles combined with Allied aerial superiority spell the end of the Axis adventure in Africa. Can you do better and avoid the historical outcome?
The scenario includes fuel logistics (transporting fuel from own supply cities to the armored/motorized units with fuel depot and fuel trucks, but thanks to small number of units in play, the micromanagement does not get out of hand.
"There exists a real danger that our friend Rommel is becoming a kind of magical or bogey-man to our troops, who are talking far too much about him. He is by no means a superman, although he is undoubtedly very energetic and able." - British General Claude Auchinleck, in a directive to his officers
FEATURES:
+ Historical accuracy: Campaign mirrors the historical setup, including some of the related events, as Operation Flipper, Bardia Raid, sand storms, less than perfect collaboration with Italian troops.
+ Experienced units learn new skills, like improved attack or defense performance, extra move points, damage resistance, etc.
+ Settings: A long list of options available to alter the look of the gaming experience: Change difficulty level, hexagon size, turn some resources OFF, Animation speed, choose icon set for units (NATO or REAL) and cities (Round, Shield, Square, block of houses), decide what is drawn on the map, and much more.
Supply Rules: To keep your armored and motorized divisions on the move you must use Fuel Trucks to transport fuel from Fuel Depots to front line units. Fuel Depots can be refueled only from El Agheila (unlimited amount) or Tobruk (limited amount). Meanwhile only El Agheila and Benghazi provide food supply, so units must have a route to either of these cities after the British forces have moved. Those who enjoyed old-school physical tabletop battles will appreciate this style.
"Rommel was a tactician of the greatest ability, with a firm grasp of every detail of the employment of armor in action, and very quick to seize the fleeting opportunity and the critical turning point of a mobile battle. I felt certain doubts, however, about his strategic ability, in particular as to whether he fully understood the importance of a sound administrative plan. Happiest while controlling a mobile force directly under his own eyes he was liable to overexploit immediate success without sufficient thought for the future." - British General Harold Alexander

Another great addition to the conflict series Joni has done it again. A nice new backdrop and great game mechanics.

Great games that have a likeness to the Avalon Hill For the strategy game player these games are quite good and in many ways seem to play out like the real campaign. A couple of suggestions: 1. Add an option to "send" a unit to a point on the map (within controlled territory) such as supply trucks and fuel depots. That way you don't have to play them every turn if they are simply going back over controlled territory for replenishment and return. Playing each unit every turn gets cumbersome when the unit must travel from Torus to Alexandria. 2. Air Recon option for air units. To find enemy units. 3. Let units arrive at Torus after port is captured. 4. Possibly let an out of fuel tank unit set up a static defense with bunker options. Finally, one small bug I've found is that if an armor unit runs out of fuel and attack points it seems to be able to hold off allied infantry units of far superior strength. Each turn it loses the battle, and you can see "retreat command" but the unit stays and isn't destroyed. I discovered this accidentally on my second game when a unit got caught out in the desert. I placed 2 minefields, one on either side, and held off the whole Brit Army in this area until I got a fuel truck there. Jim

Another game stuffed badly by the developer by introduction of unrealistic, one-sided and ridiculously unbalanced updates. For example in few round your unit can go from strength 5 to strength 0 by strafing alone. Improving AI is the way to make game more difficult, not by the introduction of strong random ill effects.
