Scat Identifier reads one photo of animal droppings or a paw print and returns the animal most likely to have left it, how careful to be, and what to do next.

The scat scanner works on raccoon, coyote, fox, deer, squirrel, rat, mouse, bat and skunk sign, on attic insulation, in a vegetable bed, along a trail or in mud by the back door.

• The scientific name in Latin, size and shape against whatever gives scale

• Freshness and the cue behind it, from wet and glossy to grey and crumbling
• The health risks documented for this animal's waste, named plainly

THE RISK LINE LEADS THE RESULT
The animal name alone does not answer the question you actually have, so the risk line sits above it, colour coded, with health risks and removal steps below. Low risk is the floor for droppings and never means harmless.

IT SAYS UNKNOWN WHEN ONE PHOTO CANNOT SETTLE IT
Size separates bobcat from house cat, rat from mouse, coyote from fox, and most photos have nothing in frame to measure against. With no coin, ruler or boot for scale the app says so and lowers its own confidence. Mud and snow spread a paw print and can turn a house cat into a mountain lion. Where two animals both fit, it names one, names the rival, and gives the test that decides it.

DROPPINGS, PELLETS, GUANO AND PAW PRINTS
Scat is read for shape, segmentation and contents: rope-like and tapered for a carnivore, blunt tubes for an omnivore, pellets for a herbivore, a white cap for a bird. Guano that crumbles to glittering insect fragments is the clearest bat-versus-rodent test there is. A track is read for toe count, claws, pads and negative space: four clawed toes is a wild canid, four without claws is a cat, five finger-like toes is a raccoon.

This app is an AI reading of the photo you take. It identifies the animal most likely to have left the sign; it does not confirm the species and it never tells you that droppings are safe to touch. Treat all animal waste as infectious: wear disposable gloves and a fitted N95-grade mask, wet the material before removing it, never sweep or vacuum it dry, bag it sealed and wash your hands. Bat guano accumulations and raccoon latrines are a job for a professional wildlife or remediation service. If a raccoon, bat, skunk or fox is living in or against your home, contact animal control or a licensed wildlife operator. After any bite, scratch or suspected exposure, contact a doctor the same day, and a vet for an animal.
