Comments on Simple Step Tracker: Pedometer for Android

★★★★★ Chaz B (Chaybee) · Jun 25, 2024

This app is a no-nonsense, simplistic step counter that provides the information in real time via the notifications bar. This is exactly what I was looking for. Google's own step tracking "widget" built in to my Pixel 7 doesn't even do this as they make you click on the widget to open their app to see your updated step numbers which is annoying. Another pro is that it doesn't eat battery life like some of the more popular competitors. Kudos to the developer of this app and highly recommend it.

First time using this with Google Fit, Google got 10k meanwhile Simple got 8.4k steps. Second time, they matched. However, I do like that you can simply view the step count in the notifications bar without having to bring up the app. And it's very lightweight in UX compared to Google fit, which I like. 1 feedback is the Simple forces the first view onto profile tab. I would rather have the app open up with the step count. Edit: I installed simple stepper first.

I work in a muli floor building. Seems if I walk the same path on a lower floor, it doesn't track that (e.g. stairwell, having to walk to a similar horizontal location on a different floor)

You have to open the app every day in order for it to start counting, doesn't seem to be working in the background even though I selected what I thought was that function... daily misses a good 50% of the steps at least. I used to have a Huawei which had Huawei Health and was very good at picking up steps. I easily take 10000 steps a day whereas with Simple Stepper it picks up typically around 3000. Quite frustrating, I will b changing apps soon. It does work but not very well at all.
