Skein: AI Second Brain & Tasks

Skein is a second brain you talk to. Tell it anything on your mind, a task, an idea, a plan or something you just finished, and it keeps your projects in order. Your boards are one tap away when you want to see the whole picture.

Just tell it
• “Call the plumber, pay the rent and buy packing tape”: three tasks, filed in the right project
• “Moving week: ask Marta for her car”: straight into that project
• “I booked the van”: it finds the task and ticks it off
• “Create a task for Skein because it's not working”, then later “Skein is working fine now”: it closes that task with your update
• “Remind me to call the dentist tomorrow at 10”: a task with a reminder, even with Skein closed
• “Move the report to in progress”, “make the rent urgent”, “assign the drill to Joan”
• “New project Wedding: book the venue, send the invitations”
• Spot a duplicate? It adds the new details to the task you already have instead

Ask it
• “What's next?” shows what to do now, in-progress and urgent work first
• “What's pending in Thesis?”, “What's due this week?”, “What did I finish?”, “What does Joan have?”
• “How are my projects going?” gives a summary of every project
• Ask for advice (“how should I pack the kitchen?”) and add the suggested steps as tasks with one tap

Remembers what matters
• “Skein is an app for mental notes”: things you tell it become notes, not tasks
• Say “Marta is my landlord”, and later “I paid the landlord” ticks off “Pay Marta the deposit”
• “Remember that the gate code is 4512”, then just ask “what's the gate code?”
• “Gym stuff goes in Health”, and those tasks go there from then on
• See it all as a graph, like a personal wiki: projects, people, places and topics, and how they connect. Delete any part of it, with what hangs off it
• The more you use it, the better it knows what matters to you, without slowing down
• Memory stays on your phone. Forget anything, any time

Built to be trusted
• You watch it work: every reply shows the steps it took, and you can stop the helper at any moment
• Every change shows up as a card you can tap, and one tap on Undo takes it back
• Deleting always asks first; when a message could mean two tasks, it asks which one
• It understands English and Spanish, by text or by voice
• Works offline. The chat never leaves your phone

A private AI, on your phone
• Skein understands you on its own; add a helper for smarter understanding and to talk ideas through: Pip (light), Bram (balanced) or Sage (for powerful phones)
• The model runs on your phone after a one-time download. Your notes and messages are never sent to any AI service
• Upgrade, downgrade or uninstall the helper any time

Boards when you want them
• Each project is a kanban board: lanes like Inbox, In progress and Done, or your own
• Drag notes along; colours, tags, priority and who it's for; filter and group
• Organize with AI, rewrite a title or turn a messy list into notes from the board too

Shared, not uploaded
• Share a project with a QR code: anyone on the same Wi-Fi opens it in their browser, no install needed
• Or send a secure link to someone far away
• Boards sync directly between devices, end-to-end encrypted. No account, no cloud storing your notes
• Each person is a coloured thread, and their latest edit is stitched onto the note

Yours, on every phone
• Capture from the home-screen widget, a shortcut or the lock screen (capture only, your notes stay hidden)
• Move everything to a new phone by scanning a code, or keep an encrypted backup file

Made to be easy for everyone: screen reader support, large text, high contrast colours and no needless motion.

Skein is free. A small banner on the projects list, an occasional ad between tasks and an optional support video keep it that way. Never ads in the chat or on your board.

Recent changes:
Skein now tells tasks, notes and instructions apart. Say "anything about apps goes in Apps" and it learns the rule; "when I tell you about Skein, keep it as a note" and it does. Facts like "Skein uses Flutter" go to that project's note, and when a message isn't clearly a task it asks instead of guessing. Fixed: on a nearly full phone the app could close while the helper got ready; now it says how much space it needs.
