Comments on SMS Backup & Restore for Android

★★★★★ bernard langham · Sep 5, 2026

The fact that you lose all your sms messages and your entire phone call history when you move to a new phone (assuming your old phone was stolen or bricked) is a huge flaw in the Android ecosystem. By rights, they should be backed up and restored automatically. Fortunately, we have SMS Backup & Restore, which plugs this loophole. It has saved my bacon multiple times now.

★★★★★ Baseer hussain · Sep 29, 2026

Did the job quite well. I couldn't transfer the messages to my new phone for some reason directly by the normal way. This made it possible quite easily.

★☆☆☆☆ Eric Hernandez · Sep 28, 2026

Did not work. It appears to make a backup but the restore option does not work with the very backups it created just minutes before. I tried with usb stick, Google Drive, and OneDrive. None worked. Don't assume your files are safe. Also still showed ads even after purchase and reinstall.

★☆☆☆☆ Dawn Yurescko · Sep 29, 2026

Created a huge 5.9gb backup file which I would have been fine with if it worked. Unfortunately it did not and I specifically wanted to back up my messages to correct a different issue and when I reset the messaging app, as expected, some messages were missing. I tried to restore with this app, and it didn't work for then messages I wanted, but it DID restore hundreds of spam texts
