Comments on Sound Analyzer App for Android
★★★★★
I am super happy with the SLM! I figured it was giving me a ballpark estimate. But then I calibrated it to a dedicated meter. I'm sure different phones vary, but on mine the app was spot on!!! Accurate without any adjustments! That plus no ads is wonderful!
★★★★★
Very useful app for estimation of sound levels. Great it is free with no ads! Thanks.
★★★★★
Amazing! Now wondering if there is or will be a way when you save/ download the data it will show in the lined graph setting
★★★★★
Excellent! Exactly what I was looking for! I love that it has both a spectrum analyzer and an SLM graph that shows the minimum and maximum levels of the global noise!
★★☆☆☆
I'm not even sure what they're trying to display? I see no application at all for this or many of these so-called sound tools. None seem to work properly or have the tools to accomplish anything correctly. When compared to my AZDEN EQ with built-in RTA Pink noise and pure tones, using a microphone running back into the EQ and adjust my active xover I can see the band widen or lessen as I adjust it. This app shows general random loudness close to 2 octaves at best, good for kids not usable for me
★★☆☆☆
Spectrum analyzer does not differentiate frequencies. I have sung then whistled a scale in a quiet environment, and analyzer showed essentially the same bar pattern regardless of note. I have other analyzer apps that work fine on this phone, so know it is not a mid-problem.
★★☆☆☆
Fatally flawed as it doesn't allow you to select a microphone source. By default, Android seems to send a processed signal that compresses loud noises (or boosts quiet ones) -- you can see this in action by playing a loud test tone after silence, as the reported level will quickly drop as the processing recalibrates. Every modern Android device I've owned, however, also has the option to select an unprocessed audio feed, so long as the app asks. A dark mode would be most welcome, as well.
