Sound Meter: Decibel Meter

Sound Meter turns your phone into a fast, easy decibel meter. Point the microphone at any environment and watch the sound level in dB update in real time, with an animated gauge, a live waveform, and minimum, average and maximum readings for every session.

KEY FEATURES
• Real-time decibel (dB) measurement using the device microphone
• Animated gauge plus a live waveform of the last 40 seconds
• Minimum, average and maximum dB for each measurement session
• Standard Signal vs Noise Signal balance bars
• Noise classification in plain language: Safe, Moderate, Loud, Dangerous — each with a short health tip
• Daily noise dose based on the NIOSH exposure formula, colour-coded by risk
• Sound alert — set a dB threshold and get a vibration plus a screen flash whenever it is crossed
• Record a session, save it, and play it back with a synchronised waveform
• Recent recordings history you can revisit at any time

PERFECT FOR
• Checking noise at home, in the office or in your neighbourhood
• Students and teachers exploring acoustics
• Musicians monitoring rehearsal and stage volume
• Construction and factory workers assessing job-site noise
• Parents keeping sound at safe levels for children
• Creators checking a room before they hit record

HOW ACCURATE IS IT?
Sound Meter reads the built-in microphone, which is tuned for speech, so extremely quiet and extremely loud sounds can be limited by the hardware itself. Readings are excellent for comparing environments and spotting risky noise, but the app is not a replacement for a calibrated professional sound level meter.

PRIVACY FIRST
Measurements and recordings stay on your device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded. Internet access is used only to load the adverts that keep the app free.

Free to use, with an optional one-time purchase that removes ads permanently.

Fixed a crash that could happen when starting a measurement while the microphone was already in use — during a call, or by another app. The app now tells you instead of closing.
