Description

Around the world training programs for sprinting describe the "intensity" that athletes should be running at during training sessions. Usually, this is described as a percentage, for example: "2 x 150m @ 90% intensity". Sometimes coaches emphasize that this percentage is only intended as a guide and that you need to run according to how you feel on a given day. Other times coaches may give a target time for athletes to run, which they believe best matches the intensity indicated by the training program. There are a few problems with this.

Firstly, using the percentage efforts on training programs only as guides is not specific. It leaves athletes to train entirely on feeling, so when race day comes and they're not running the times that they want, they're left confused as to why.

Secondly, coaches usually have to manage many athletes at a time. So when they give a target time for a training session, they're addressing more than one athlete. The problem with this is that individual athletes are unique and giving even just 2 athletes the same directive can take away from each athletes' specific capabilities and goals.

With Sprint Pacer, athletes are not left guessing at whether the problem was that they weren't following the intensity on their training program correctly. And, they can rest assured that their training times cater for their own personal goals.
