Standard Notes is a great privacy-focused note app with strong end-to-end encryption and reliable sync across devices. I've been using Standard Notes for a while and recently tried the self-hosted setup. I really like the focus on privacy and encryption, which is something many note apps don't prioritize. The interface is simple and distraction-free, and syncing between devices has worked reliably for me. The self-hosting setup can be a bit technical at first, but once it's running it works smoothly. Overall it's a solid choice if you want a secure, minimal note-taking app and more control over your data.

I forgot the password to this app. I have taken a lot of important notes here. I just discovered that Standard Notes does not support password reset. I was very close to deleting the app from my old phone. Now I need your support to help me export my notes, so I can import them to my new phone and create a new account. This is honestly one of the worst apps I’ve ever experienced. A stupid feature can cause users to permanently lose all of their data.

I was a Standard Notes user since 2020. Back before Proton acquired the company, Standard Notes said it would honor Black Friday sale pricing "indefinitely" and that you would stay locked in at the sale price. However, Proton has changed the policy to now revert subscribers to the pricing they first signed up at. Proton took a good notes app and did absolutely nothing to improve it further. Standard Notes is looking stale when compared to Notes nook.

Free tier is extremely bare-bones: no way to bold/italicize/underline text or make checklists unless you're on a paid plan. & even if you have a Proton paid sub, it doesn't cover Standard Notes which is an entirely separate sub (cheapest of which is $90 annually). Sure, end-to-end encryption is great, & really should be standard these days. But to not even allow basic text formatting? & it's not even included in Proton paid plans? Come on. I'll stick with my Google Keep Notes, thanks.
