Tabfall: Guitar Tab Play-Along

Tab falls down six string lanes, and you play it on a real guitar. No cable: prop the phone up and Tabfall listens through its mic.

Most play-along apps give you a verdict and no reason. Tabfall has The Ear: it always shows what it heard, live. When a note isn't counted, you can see what it heard instead. A phone mic in a real room has limits, and you should be able to see them rather than guess.

THREE WAYS TO PLAY
• Listen: hear the piece and watch the tab fall
• Play along: the clock runs and you join in
• Wait: the music stops until it hears you
• Slow it down, loop any A-B section, or tap "loop that bit" on your results

READABLE FROM A STAND
• Big fret numbers on each note, in portrait
• Bends, slides and hammer-ons are drawn on the tails
• Chords come as one row with the chord's name
• Left-handed lanes in Settings

YOUR OWN FILES
• Import Guitar Pro 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 files (.gp3, .gp4, .gp5, .gp), MusicXML and MIDI
• Paste a plain-text tab, or open a .txt. Text tabs don't hold rhythm, so timing is a guess from the spacing and they open in Wait
• Pick the part you want. MIDI has no fingering, so Tabfall works out strings and frets
• If it can't read a file, or has to drop a note, it says so
• Tabfall comes with no tabs from anyone else's catalogue. Bring only what you have the right to use

225 PIECES WITH BACKING
Public-domain and openly licensed classical guitar, folk and blues (Tárrega, Carcassi, Carulli, Giuliani, Sor, Bach and more), plus 82 rock riffs, progressions and exercises written for Tabfall. Levels 1 to 5. Every piece has a licence on record, and those that ask for credit get it in Settings.

SET UP FOR YOUR GUITAR
• Acoustic, classical or electric
• A tuner that won't urge you on when a string is more than two semitones out
• A level check and a timing calibration for your phone and headphones
• Bass and ukulele parts in imported files work too, in beta
• Pluck mode: no guitar to hand? Tap the strings on screen, swipe across for chords

FAIR PRICE
Free with three pieces and one imported file, with the full listening engine, every mode and no time limit, so you can try it on your own guitar first. One payment of £12.99 unlocks all 225 pieces and unlimited imports. No subscription, no account, no ads.

PRIVATE AND OFFLINE
The mic stays on your phone and it works offline. Nothing is recorded or sent unless you choose to turn on Send my recordings, which helps improve how Tabfall hears guitars and is off by default.

Small fixes, and Tabfall now asks once, after a run it heard well, if you would like to rate it.
