Connect 2, 5, or 10 phones to the same WiFi network, press play once, and music plays from every device — at the same instant. No Bluetooth speaker, no cables, no cloud account. Just phones in a room, perfectly in time.
Built for parties without a speaker, road trips with multiple devices, study sessions where everyone wants the same playlist, or any moment when one phone just isn't loud enough.
KEY FEATURES
• Tight sync, on purpose — phones agree on the exact wall-clock instant to start each track. Sub-30 ms accuracy in normal conditions, well below the human echo threshold. • Local files or YouTube — host phone can play from its own audio library, or load any YouTube video and every client streams it independently, perfectly cued. • Find friends fast — hosts advertise themselves on the WiFi network automatically. Clients tap a name to join. No host? Scan a QR code on the host's screen. • Per-device calibration — if one speaker is slow because of Bluetooth headphones or a slow phone, slide the per-device offset to nudge it back in time. • Per-device volume — every client can set its own volume independently. • Lock-screen ready — music keeps playing when the screen turns off, with media controls on the lock screen and notification shade. • Privacy first — Unison never sends your music or your network anywhere. Everything stays on your local WiFi. No accounts, no analytics, no cloud. • Dark, modern UI — six built-in color themes, smooth animations, designed for the moment when the lights are low and the music is loud.
HOW TO USE
1. One phone picks "Host a Party" and shares a name. 2. Other phones pick "Join a Party" — they appear in seconds. 3. Host picks a song; everyone hears it together.
HOW IT WORKS
Unison uses a clock-synchronization protocol (NTP-style) to align every device against the host's clock, then schedules audio playback at a wall-clock timestamp. Audio is streamed over WiFi as raw bytes — no re-encoding, no quality loss. For YouTube videos, each client fetches the video independently and Unison just synchronizes the play / pause / seek commands.
REQUIREMENTS
• Android 7.0 or later (API 24+) • All phones on the same WiFi network — a phone hotspot works • Host phone needs the audio file or a YouTube link
LIMITATIONS
• YouTube ads cause a brief desync until the ad ends. • Phones with very different audio hardware (e.g., one wired, one Bluetooth) may need per-device calibration. • Bluetooth headphones add their own latency — calibration helps but the sync is tightest with the phone speakers.
KNOWN PERMISSIONS
• WiFi state & nearby devices — to discover other phones running Unison on the same network. • Audio file access — only when the host picks a file. You choose which files; Unison does not scan your library. • Foreground service & notifications — to keep music playing with the screen off. • Camera — only for scanning a host's QR invite code. • Location — required by Android to read the current WiFi SSID; never sent off-device.
