Non-root works with helpful forum people Googled through forums to patch the whatsapp apk, so that the full desktop backup will work. I liked to turn off the notification but since im using non-root, im not sure if tri-crypt will give me a warning when decrypting fails (auto encrypt key updates)

Rubbish. Void warranty to decrypt a message. Might as well run software on PC to decrypt whatsapp backups.
