Whisper is built on an offline-first, dual-transport mesh architecture. Using local Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Whisper automatically discovers and connects to nearby peers. You can send messages and share files securely without ever connecting to the internet or relying on a cellular provider. However, should you need to communicate over the internet, we've got you covered -- our secure packets get encrypted into small bit streams of jumbled data, passed through a hardened proxy relay server, and assembled and decrypted on the other side only by your intended recipient.

True Zero-Knowledge Internet Relay:
When physical proximity is lost, Whisper seamlessly falls back to our secure internet WebSocket relay. Unlike traditional messaging apps, the Whisper relay server operates strictly in volatile RAM. It acts only as a blind courier, forwarding encrypted binary blobs between peers. The relay server retains zero logs, store zero messages, and possess zero ability to see who you are talking to or what you are saying.

Military-Grade Forward Secrecy:
Every single message you send is encrypted with a unique, one-time key using the industry-leading Double Ratchet Algorithm. Any snooper would have to break a new key for each message and conversation you've ever had on Whisper.

Uncompromising Feature Arsenal:

Anonymous Ed25519 Identities:
No phone numbers, emails, or accounts required. Your identity is a mathematically verifiable public key. All handshakes are authenticated cryptographically to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.

SQLCipher Encrypted Vault:
We believe that data at rest is just as important as data in transit. Whisper utilizes a customized SQLCipher implementation to ensure all stored messages and contacts are encrypted with AES-256 GCM block-level encryption directly on your local hardware.

Targeted Data Shredding:
In an emergency, Whisper allows you to trigger a targeted shred of specific conversations, wipe all your contacts, or initiate a complete app-level factory reset that overwrites your local whisper database with random bytes to deter forensic recovery.

Ephemeral Retention Policies:
Take control of your digital footprint. Assign custom retention policies on a per-contact basis. Set messages to automatically purge after 24 hours, 7 days, or immediately upon reading to leave absolutely no trace.

Seamless Vault Integration:
Whisper infrastructure includes an offline storage vault. Move sensitive file attachments received over the Whisper mesh network directly into your permanent, biometric-bound offline vault with a single tap.
