Description by Needed Labs(from Google Play)
Wordaboo is a language app built around short lessons. Each one takes about four minutes, so it fits into a coffee break.
Grammar is explained in the language you already speak. If you speak English and you're learning French, the notes compare French with English. If you speak Russian and you're learning English, they compare English with Russian. What trips you up depends on where you start, so every language pair gets its own explanations.
Courses For English speakers: French, Spanish, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Uzbek. English for speakers of Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, Turkish, Indonesian, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Urdu, Bengali and Uzbek. Some pairs between other languages too, such as French for Spanish speakers or German for Russian speakers.
Every course goes from your first words to C2. Japanese starts with hiragana, Russian with the alphabet, Arabic with its letters, and Chinese with pinyin and tones. If you already know some, a short placement test puts you at the right level.
Also in the app • Illustrated stories to read and listen to, with questions along the way • Roleplay conversations, from ordering at a bakery to a job interview • A chat partner that runs on your phone (AI, in beta, on some courses and newer phones) • Live 1v1 word games against friends or anyone, and a weekly league • Practice for the sounds your own language blurs together • A grammar book with every explanation you have reached
You can use the app in 16 languages.
Wordaboo is free. Premium is optional: it removes ads, gives you unlimited hearts and bubbles, and lets you take lessons offline.
There are no third-party analytics in the app. Friends stays off until you turn it on, and you can delete your account from inside the app.
Recent changes: New: Every course now goes all the way to C2. New: Two new courses: Spanish for Portuguese speakers and Russian for Uzbek speakers. New: Hundreds of new drawings for words, from animals and food to jobs and sports. New: Two new stories with Mia, Leo and Grandma Nina, and stories now come to the Uzbek course too. New: Chat with Blip on more courses. New: A one-time question about your age, so younger learners get safer settings. Plus smaller fixes and polish.

Amazing app! In my opinion this teaches better than Duolingo for my Spanish course. The app has fewer languages than Duolingo, but they do seem to be in the works of adding a lot more.
