Cars always in terrible condition, trash, smelly, or even dangerous (shards of glass on seat). Moving to another car is usually not a feasible option. Spend 15 minutes of every rental cleaning and documenting damage to avoid being charged extra. I've also rerented the same car days later only to find it unchanged. 12/2025 update: nothing has changed. Got $3.50 credit for smelly weed car with dirty undies on seat. 09/2026 update: $100 parking charge for correctly parking in Zip car space.

I was a zip car customer for 3 years. Recently, zip car charged me for a parking violation fee for an incident that happened 2 months ago. I was trying to return the vehicle and end the trip, but I found another vehicle parked in the spot that was reserved for zip car. I called their customer service and was instructed to park their vehicle anywhere it's ok to park. I found a metter parking near the zip car reserved spot, and I parked the car there. 2 months later, zip car charged me 137 dollars.

Terrible service! The cars don't work half the time, and they will move cars away from you. If you need any help, you are SOL. My keys got stuck in the center console because a latch was left open, and they will refuse to help. Won't let me open it, won't help me. Told me to get new keys, and refuse to comp time to take to a dealer. Another time the car I booked was dead on arrival, and they refused to comp my time to get to an alternate vehicle. Don't do business with them if you can avoid it.
