A perfect game is one you play through without a single fault. At the Classic level, you'll get there quickly. At the Ultimate level, it's another story.
I've played Crapette all my life. In my family, we toughened its rules little by little, for ever sharper contests. I wanted a game you win not just by getting rid of your cards, but by playing right, move after move. Here's what I put into it.
Rules that turn every move into a puzzle.
At the Classic level, it's the game you know: almost every move is allowed. Each of the six levels adds a more demanding rule, until only the best path remains. Miss it, and your opponent calls "Stop!" and takes over the turn. (In France we shout "Crapette!" — hence the name.) There's no timer: this isn't about reflexes, it's about seeing everything on the table.
A referee that explains.
At the table, Crapette often ends in an argument: "Stop!" — "No, I was allowed!" Here the computer decides, and every Stop!, every hint shows you the expected move and the rule behind it. Nothing is arbitrary.
A computer that makes mistakes, on purpose.
A perfect opponent is restful to watch, but you never catch it out. So the Squire, the Knight and the King slip up — often, sometimes, rarely — and you learn to call Stop! as you would against a real player. The Algorithm never errs.
Face to face, on one device.
Lay the iPad or iPhone between you and the board turns toward each of you. That's how I wanted to pass the game on: grandchildren and grandparents on equal terms, the computer as referee.
Grades, because losing hurts less when you played better.
Losing the game after taking fewer Stop!s than your opponent is bitter. So every game earns a grade and stars that measure your faults and the help you used. Platinum stars reward a faultless game.
A right to make mistakes, but an honest one.
Oops! takes back your move, as players sometimes allow each other at the table, but the fault still counts. To get started: target cards, hints, a Best move button, and a "?" that explains every button.
