Guidacle: Guide Where You Are

Guidacle makes the audio guide for where you're standing, the moment you get there.

There is no list of supported places in this app.

The guide is already here. A short wait the first time, and after that it's there for whoever listens next in that language.

How it works

When you arrive somewhere, Guidacle reads the place live from open sources: Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and the map itself. A guide is made once per place and per language. You go first. Your visit means the next person here doesn't wait, because narration is saved by place, not by person.

What you can do

Walk. Put the phone in your pocket and go. The guide starts talking as you come up to a place, and the words are on screen if you'd rather read along. You don't pick a track and you don't follow a numbered route.

Ask. Curious about where you are? Ask Guidacle and get an answer for the place you're standing in.

Point the camera. Snap something and hear what it is.

Make a route. Build your own from the places you save, or have one proposed. Nothing makes you walk a route. Go the other way and the guide comes with you.

Hear the place, not just the guide. What the guide says on a walk or a route is also there as text, so your ears stay open for the traffic, or you read it later.

Languages

English and Norwegian today, with German on the way. The app itself speaks all three.

Before you go

Sign in and download a route or a place before you go. It still plays with no signal.

Where the words come from

Every episode shows which sources it draws on. If something is wrong, say so from the player and we check it against the sources.
