Orbiar Scan – 3D Capture

Capture photogrammetry‑ready image sets with your iPhone.
Orbiar Scan turns your iPhone into a professional 3D capture terminal for photogrammetry workflows. It is designed to feed clean, consistent image sets into your Mac‑based reconstruction pipeline (e.g. PhotogrammetrySession), so you can focus on your assets instead of fighting noisy data.
The app is built on native iOS frameworks like ARKit, AVFoundation and CoreMotion to get the most out of your device’s camera and motion sensors, on both LiDAR and non‑LiDAR models.
Who is it for?
3D artists and game studios capturing props, products and environment assets
Design, VFX and visualization teams who need repeatable, high‑quality capture for their 3D pipelines
Researchers and photogrammetry enthusiasts who want more control than a simple camera roll provides
Key capabilities
AR‑guided orbital capture
Orbiar Scan tracks your device in 3D space using ARKit and motion data, helping you move around the object on stable orbits and maintain a good distance. You see how well you are covering the subject while you shoot.
Smart auto‑triggering based on movement
Instead of fixed‑interval shooting, the app can trigger photos when your position or viewing angle changes enough to add real value to the dataset. This reduces redundant frames and helps avoid coverage gaps around the object.
Locked‑in optical settings for consistency
During a capture session, focus, exposure and white balance can be locked through AVFoundation so each frame looks consistent. This minimizes flicker and color shifts that often hurt photogrammetry quality.
Rich camera metadata and calibration info
When available, camera calibration data (intrinsics, principal point, distortion parameters, etc.) is stored alongside your images. Your Mac reconstruction tools can use this information to better model the lens and improve geometric accuracy.
Haptic feedback while capturing
Subtle haptic cues confirm when the app takes a frame, so you can keep your eyes on the object instead of the shutter button. This gives the capture flow a precise, professional feel.
Orbital map with quality hints
An on‑screen orbital map shows your coverage around the object and can highlight frames that might be low‑light or blurry. You get a quick, visual sense of whether you should reshoot certain angles before you leave the scene.
Made for Mac photogrammetry pipelines
Orbiar Scan is not “just another camera app.” It is designed as the front end of your 3D pipeline, producing datasets that slot directly into Mac‑side tools such as PhotogrammetrySession and other reconstruction solutions. The combination of AR‑aware guidance, optical locking and structured metadata means:
Cleaner textures with fewer lighting jumps
More stable geometry with better camera estimation
Less manual cleanup and fewer reshoots
If you rely on iOS and macOS for 3D production, Orbiar Scan gives you a focused capture tool that speaks the same native language as your reconstruction stack.
