Safe Cracker: Feel the Hinge

Safe Cracker turns your phone into the safe.

There is no keypad, and no dial to spin with your thumb. The combination is a set of hinge angles, and the only way to find them is to fold the phone slowly and feel for them.

HOW IT WORKS

Every safe hides its numbers between 15 and 165 degrees of hinge opening. As the hinge closes in on a tumbler the taps quicken, and outside its range you feel nothing at all. When the taps are racing, hold that angle steady, without wobbling, until the tumbler locks and gives up its number. Find them all and the door swings open.

BUILT FOR THE FOLDABLE IPHONE

Unfolded, the dial sits on one side of the crease and the readout on the other, so nothing is hidden under your hands. Folded, the whole safe fits on the cover screen. Either way, the hinge is the only control.

THREE DIFFICULTIES

Apprentice - three tumblers, a forgiving six degrees of tolerance, and ticks you can feel coming from a long way out.

Professional - three tumblers, four degrees of tolerance, and a steadier hand required.

Master - four tumblers, two and a half degrees of tolerance, and almost no warning before you arrive.
