SHSAT Prep: Practice Tests

Most SHSAT prep starts with drilling. That is the fastest way to waste the time you have, because you cannot study everything at once and you do not yet know what is weak.

This app starts with a 24-question diagnostic, about half an hour. It is not a score. It tells you where to begin, and builds a study plan around your test date.

The SHSAT is computer-adaptive now, and it runs on screen: 50 questions in ELA and 50 in Math, 180 minutes, one question at a time — you can move around inside a reading passage set until you submit it, and nowhere else — and no calculator.

Practice here runs by those same rules — timed, one at a time, no going back, no calculator — with the on-screen tools to work with: highlight a passage, cross out a choice you have ruled out, line numbers to point at. The format itself is a lesson, so nothing on test day is new.

And one of the full-length tests adapts. The Adaptive Practice Test picks what to ask next from how the sitting is going, the way the real exam does, and afterwards tells you the difficulty level you were working at in each section. The other full-length tests are linear: the whole paper is drawn before you start and does not change with your answers. Either way every sitting draws a fresh set of questions to the same blueprint, so a test is worth sitting more than once. Drills and the question bank are not adaptive; you pick those yourself.

Every question shows the method, step by step, and then checks the answer against it. Get one wrong and you find out why, not just which letter you missed.
