Maybe you’re rehearsing an audition. Recording a reporting segment. Filming a video essay. Making content for social media. Or trying to remember a page of dialogue without your eyes wandering somewhere six feet below the camera.
That’s why I made SideReader.
SideReader brings your script, teleprompter, camera, rehearsal tools, and takes together in one focused creative studio.
And there was another problem I wanted it to solve: sometimes you need the same performance in portrait *and* landscape. One for TikTok, Reels, or Shorts. Another for YouTube, a presentation, an edit, or whatever comes next.
With SideReader, you can record once and deliver twice, creating portrait and landscape versions from the same take without having to perform the whole thing again.
YOUR SCRIPT - IN FRONT OF YOU
Bring in your script and use SideReader as a teleprompter while you rehearse or record. Adjust the experience to the way *you* read and perform, so you can spend less time fighting the words on the screen and more time actually delivering them.
REHEARSE AT YOUR PACE
Sometimes you’re not ready to hit Record yet. That’s fine.
Rehearsal is built into the SideReader experience, so you can work through your script, find your pace, get comfortable with the material, and then record when you’re ready.
RECORD ONCE - DELIVER TWICE
SideReader can create both portrait and landscape outputs from a single recording, giving one performance more places to go.
No second take just because another platform wants a different shape.
HIGH RESOLUTION FOR ALL OF EMOTION
On supported devices and configurations, SideReader can capture video at up to 4K and 60 FPS, because something made for creators should take the actual camera part seriously too.
YOUR TAKES ARE ALWAYS YOURS
SideReader was designed to be privacy and local-first. Your scripts, recordings, settings, and creative work live on your device unless You choose to save, export, or share them.
Your performance shouldn’t need a trip through somebody else’s server just to belong to you.
WHY I BUILT SideReader
SideReader started because I’m an actor, and I wanted something that felt surprisingly difficult to find: a teleprompter and camera that were simple enough to disappear while I was using them, but powerful enough to handle the way I actually wanted to create.
I wanted my script in front of me. I wanted to rehearse. I wanted great-quality video. I wanted portrait and landscape versions without recording the same performance twice.
And I didn’t want the app itself to become the production.
So I started building SideReader.
It has gone through a lot of work, testing, redesigns, strange little discoveries, major overhauls, and plenty of “okay, we need to rethink this entire thing” moments.
And now it’s here.
I’m incredibly proud to finally put SideReader into your hands, and this is only the beginning. I’m excited to keep improving it, expanding what it can do, and hearing how you’re actually using it.
So keep rehearsing. Keep creating. Keep filming. Keep documenting.
And when you have something worth saying, SideReader will keep the words right there for you.
So rehearse the audition.
Record the story.
Make the video.
Deliver the report.
Say the thing.
Hopefully with SideReader by Clapps, with love from Los Angeles
