Vessum keeps your photographs, documents, and notes behind more than one passcode.

Each passcode opens a different space, with its own contents. The idea is simple: decide in advance which passcode you are willing to give away.

WHY MORE THAN ONE

If you are ever asked to unlock your phone, a single passcode gives up everything at once. Vessum lets you prepare a second space ahead of time and fill it with real, ordinary material. Hand over that passcode and whoever types it finds a complete, working app. Nothing on the phone shows that anything else is there.

EVERY SPACE IS THE SAME APP

This is the part that most apps with a decoy password get wrong. If the decoy is missing a feature the real one has, anyone who has seen the app before can spot it in seconds.

In Vessum, every space has the same settings, the same wording, and the same ability to create spaces of its own. A space lists what it created and never what created it. So there is no way to tell whether you are looking at the first space you made or one three levels beneath it.

- AES-256-GCM encryption, applied before anything is written to disk
- Keys derived from your passcode with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 at 150,000 iterations
- Every item sealed under its own key
- Storage excluded from iCloud and from computer backups
- The open space closes the moment you leave the app
- The app switcher preview is covered before iOS takes its snapshot

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE

No account. No email address. No server. No analytics. Vessum makes no network connection at all, because it contains no code that could. Put the phone in aeroplane mode and everything still works exactly the same.

WHAT VESSUM CANNOT DO

You should know the limits before you rely on it.

Vessum cannot hide other apps on your phone. No iOS app can. Showing and hiding apps is a system power that no app is able to request, no matter what any other app claims.

It is built for somebody holding your phone and asking for a passcode. It is not a defence against forensic examination of the device by a laboratory with the right equipment.

That Vessum is installed is visible to anyone who looks at the phone. What stays hidden is how many spaces exist and what is inside them.

A FORGOTTEN PASSCODE IS GONE

Your passcode is not stored anywhere, not on a server and not on your phone. It is only ever typed. That is exactly what makes a space private, and it is also why nobody can recover it, including us. There is no reset and no recovery code.

Write your passcode down and keep it somewhere safe, away from the phone.
