This graph shows the number of available applications on Google Play. Last update: December 2, 2023.
The AppBrain low quality app detection filter detects automatically which apps are unlikely to be useful ("low quality apps"). Google seems to remove apps from the market roughly once a quarter, in which case the total number of available Android apps goes down. The removed apps are almost always classified by our system as low quality apps.

Why the decrease in Android apps

Note that Google has been removing apps from the store which don't have certain data filled out. For instance, Google added a flag for all apps whether an app is child-directed or not. When a developer uploaded his app before this flag existed, Google at some point sent out a warning that he has to fill out this information. Developers that have lost interest in their app may not fill this information out, and Google subsequently unpublishes the app.
