Esta aplicación educativa interactiva presenta dibujos de la fauna local de la selva amazónica de Perú, con los nombres de los animales en el idioma Matses y español local, acompañados con audio en el idioma Matses que se reproducen al hacer clic. Los animales se organizan taxonómicamente según la división, el orden y la familia a la que pertenecen. Los objetivos principales son familiarizar a los estudiantes indígenas Matses con la clasificación científica y fomentar la transmisión intergeneracional del conocimiento ecológico tradicional. Puede ser utilizado por lectores emergentes para aprender a leer a nivel de palabras en Matses. Esta aplicación de 129 páginas es la primera de su tipo. This interactive educational application features drawings of the local fauna of the Amazonian rainforest of Peru, with names of the animals in the Matses language and in local Spanish, accompanied by sound clips of the Matses names that play when clicked. The animals are organized taxonomically according to the phylum, order, and family to which they belong. The main purposes are to familiarize indigenous Matses students with scientific classification and to encourage intergenerational transmission of traditional ecological knowledge. It can be used by emergent readers to learn to read at the word level in Matses. Non-Matses will find this application useful for familiarizing themselves with the fauna of Amazonian Peru, and for learning the vernacular Spanish terms for these animals. This 129-page application is the first of its kind. It illustrates the amazingly high animal diversity found Western Amazonia along with the sophisticated traditional ecological knowledge of the Matses people with illustrations of 504 species of animals drawn by Matses artist Guillermo Nëcca Pëmen Mënquë. It contains audio clips for the Matses names of all 504 species in the book. The application contains drawings of almost all the animal species that have names in the Matses language. It illustrates species in all the major categories of animals present in the Matses territory, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, centipedes, arachnids, crustaceans, mollusks, worms and other invertebrates. More than 200 animal families in 82 orders are represented. Matching of Matses animal names to animal species was carried out by Dr. David w. Fleck in consultation with Matses elders using published field guides, photographs and audio recordings of animal calls. Dr. Fleck is a biologist and linguist who has been living with the Matses and conducting biological, linguistic, ethnographic, and ethnobiological research with them since 1994.
