Description
ASL Speed Spell allows American Sign Language learners to improve their fingerspelling speed. Whether you're newer to the ASL alphabet or have been studying for years, this app can help learners at all levels understand fingerspelling faster and with better accuracy.
Why is this app different from the rest? Each fingerspelled word is individually recorded as its own video, so you can watch smoothly fingerspelled words at the speed of your choice. Plus, you can choose among several categories, like 'names', 'animals', and 'countries', to help add context to the word. Practice every day to watch your fingerspelling skills bloom!
App Features: - Practice fingerspelling over 500 words, each with their own video. - Can't figure out the answer? Replay the video, or 'give up' to see what the word was. - Adjust the speed of your practice - from Beginner all the way up to Expert. - Choose which category of words you want to practice, so you have context behind the word. - Forget how to sign a letter? The ‘alphabet’ page shows you each letter from multiple perspectives, including common variations. - The Statistics page helps you keep track of your streaks, word counts, and more. - Adjust your settings for daily practice reminders, statistics, and more. - Not a fan of ads? A small one-time in-app purchase removes ads from the app forever.
Recent changes: - New feature: Onboarding experience for new users - New feature: Streak updates on the homepage - Update: Streaks will now update whenever you complete a practice session, even if you used the 'give up' feature on all the words in that practice - Various smaller bug fixes and UI improvements

Free app and is very helpful who is getting used to reading ASL finger spelling.

Very user-friendly app to practice receptive finger spelling. Easy to customize speed, topic/category (to learn to predict words within context), word length, etc. Ads aren't excessively intrusive, but also totally worth the one-time fee to get rid of them once you know you'll keep using the app. The size of the word bank allows for a good balance of reinforcement vs new words, especially for beginner to intermediate learners.

HHH I don't like giving negative review. I prefer feedback. I've been signing for over 3 decades. My Deaf husband and I gave this a go. He was better than me, but we both had problems. Why? Words with no context. The main reason is the video starts, so immediately you cannot see the first letter. The first letter almost doesn't even register. I suggest giving at least a one or two second pause before fs, giving eyes a moment to adjust. Both of us had a hard time seeing the first letter.

it's a very basic app that's only function is practicing spelling 15 words at a time. there's an advertisement every time you practice, there's no streak freezes, and the first letter of every word is always way too fast, so you have to read the rest of the letters first and then guess the word. Its helpful if you need to practice spelling, but It's way too basic to make you watch advertisements every time you spell 15 words.
