Barrel Taxi

I've tried a couple of taxi apps in the city, and this one is as close to perfect as I think they get. It feels like they basically copied Uber's interface in their design, but there's nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. It works very, very well. If you want to entice customers in the mobile age, an app like this is exactly how you go about it. And the fact that they guarantee the rate shown in the app rather than just providing an estimate like some companies is another great idea. It makes it very easy to manage my expenses when I'm planning travel for work because I can accurately factor in my taxi fare in deciding how to use my travel allowances. One thing of note, and I think users elsewhere have picked up on it, is that this app is reused a couple of times in the app store under different names for different cab companies. The same app is in the store under the names of Capital Taxi and 24-7 Taxi service as well. The only difference is the picture they use and the app name. They are otherwise identical apps. This seems somewhat dishonest when it's nothing more than three different names for the same thing. Why not just have one as "Greater Edmonton Taxi Service" and note under that which different taxi companies are included? I imagine the reason is more top app results makes it more likely that someone will use their app, but I question whether this tactic is technically allowed by Google Play. It feels dishonest.

App used to work, updated it recently and nothing works. System can no longer find cars in the area after you input a destination, and you can not book a ride without a destination being entered. Therefore, you are not going anywhere using this app. Poor company management results in the lowest bidder for all their infrastructure. Really wish the city would step in a remove the owners and release all plates owned by the company, so we can finally have some competency.

A 12-minute ride is over 20 dollars, 20 dollars for 12 minutes of service is more than I make in an hour.
