Your phone, with the voice of a grandfather clock.
Chimy sounds the hour the way a clock in a hallway used to: a real chime, on the second, whether or not you are looking at your phone. Hear the time without a screen.
FIFTEEN SOUNDS, EACH WITH TWO VOICES
Westminster's four bells, a grandfather clock, a church bell, a tower bell, a mantel clock's bim-bam, a ship's bell that counts the watch, a cuckoo, a gong, a temple bell, a singing bowl, a music box, and simpler tones for an office. Every sound has a big hour bell and a lighter quarter bell, so two strikes at half past can never be mistaken for two o'clock. Give the quarters a sound of their own if you like.
CHIME WHEN YOU WANT
On the hour, the quarters, the half hour, or any minutes you choose on a clock dial - just tap the ring. Strike the coming hour a few minutes early, so a meeting on the hour is not the first you hear of it. Set the hours it is awake and the hours it stays quiet, and decide what quiet means: silent, softer, vibration only, or a gentler sound.
IT KNOWS WHEN NOT TO CHIME
Not during a call. Not while music or a podcast is playing. Not while your calendar says you are in a meeting you have not declined. Not under Do Not Disturb, unless you say otherwise. One tap mutes it for an hour, or until you say; a second tap makes it soft - every chime still sounds, at a fifth of the volume, for a quiet room.
MORE THAN THE HOUR
- Reminder: a nudge after the hour that repeats until you answer it, switching to a gentler, shorter sound as it goes, and dismissable with a shake, a flip, a key press, or by opening the app.
- Countdown: set a timer by twisting a dial like a kitchen timer, with milestone chimes on the way down, and saved timers you can start from the app icon.
- Interval: a chime every so many seconds or minutes for exercise, focus, or cooking, with a count-in and a lap history.
Each of these ends with a short signature of its own, so you always know which kind of chime you just heard.
HONEST ABOUT THE DETAILS
- Chimes land on the second because Android lets a clock app schedule exact alarms. Chimy asks for that permission and says why.
- It plays on the alarm stream, so it is heard when the ringer is silent, and it respects Do Not Disturb by default. Both are settings you can change.
- The sounds are synthesized in-house from the acoustics of each instrument, not recordings of famous bells; four packs use public-domain or Creative Commons clips, credited in the app.
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no location. Everything stays on your phone.

Recent changes:
A mute that ends by itself now really ends: the widget, the notification and the clock stop showing a mute that is over. The shared mute control with AlertVIP works between Play-installed copies on Android 12 and later - it never did before. One unmute dialog everywhere, which says so plainly when AlertVIP is not installed. The home-screen tile always draws, notices an uninstalled sibling, and never opens to nothing. Soft and muted are easier to tell apart.
