New here? Run the demo roast first. It plays a ten-minute roast in thirty seconds and the crack button stays live the whole time, so you can feel the point land before a single bean goes in. Demo batches carry a label and never count toward your stats.
A real roast goes like this. Charge, and the timer starts from 0:00 with the screen kept awake. Type in the temperature your roaster shows whenever you glance at it and the curve grows in real time. Tap First Crack, tap Second Crack. Undo a mistake right there, or fix the time once the roast is over. Drop, and the timer stops: total time and DTR are summarised on a batch card that goes straight to your collection.
A card holds the whole roast: the time-by-temperature curve with both cracks marked, DTR, green coffee and origin, charge weight, drop weight and weight loss, the roaster you used, preheat and room temperature, the roast level you picked from light to Italian, and a one-line note. Browse the collection by green coffee or roast level. When you roast the same coffee again, lay the previous curve underneath as a faint overlay and follow it, or hit Roast Again on the card to start with green coffee and charge weight already filled in.
Fan and power dials get the same treatment. On a FreshRoast SR540 or SR800, or any machine with 1-to-9 dials, tap each time you turn one. Changes draw as a step line in a lane under the curve and appear as a table on the card, so "fan 7 at 3:20" is there to repeat next time. Mark yellowing and the end of first crack as well and the drying, Maillard and development ratios are worked out for you.
Roaster's Kit is an optional one-time purchase, not a subscription. It adds the Replay guide, which shows last batch's fan, power and crack times next to the running timer when you start the same coffee again, and Multi-batch overlay, which stacks up to three earlier curves on one chart. Everything that is free now stays free.
What CrackLog leaves out is deliberate. It is a light, hand-kept log for home roasting: no Bluetooth link, no temperature probe, no microphone listening for cracks. You read the temperature and type it; you hear the crack and tap. DTR and weight loss show as numbers only. There is no score, no "ideal value", no streak or mission pushing you to roast daily. Once or twice a week is exactly the rhythm it is built for.
There is also no account, no login and no server. Logging never touches the internet, the app asks for no permissions, and it shows no ads. The only payment is the optional lifetime unlock, processed by Google Play. Export your entire roast history as one file, bring it back whenever you like, or clear everything from Settings in one go.
Whether you roast in a sieve, a popcorn popper, or a countertop machine, if you've been jotting crack times on paper, this is where that paper turns into a curve.
Recent changes:
Roaster's Kit now logs a second temp. If your roaster shows two readings, like bean temp and exhaust temp, you can log either one while you roast, and the curve draws a second line. Name them in your roaster profile. Nothing connects to your roaster: you still type in the numbers you see, same as before.
Batch details and the finish screen also show the peak of the second temp. In Edit log, both temps sit in one list, so you can fix or delete either.
Everything free stays free.
