How it works
1. Photograph the chart. The grid is detected in the photo and laid over it, and matching symbols are grouped together.
2. Stitch, then mark. Tap a square or drag along a row. Every square gives a small haptic tap and the progress percentage updates on the spot. The fill is translucent, so the symbol stays visible underneath.
3. Fix mistakes freely. Eraser and undo are always one tap away.
4. Come back anytime. The last chart, your scroll position, zoom and the symbol you had selected are restored when you reopen the app.
If the grid cannot be found
Faded print or a photo taken at an angle can defeat detection. When that happens, type in the stitch count from the chart edge and drag four handles onto the corners. Charts set up by hand get the same marking, progress, undo and place restore as detected ones, and if you already know the count this is often the faster route. Existing photos and pages from purchased PDF charts come in through the same door.
Show One Symbol
When you have one color threaded, switch on Show One Symbol. Only that symbol stays bright, the rest fades back, and you see how many of it are left plus a rough finish time for that symbol at your pace. The app does not ask you for floss numbers; your printed key already has them.
A finish estimate without pressure
The whole-chart estimate is based on how many of the last 14 days you stitched and how many squares a typical session covers. You get a date range rather than a single day, nothing is shown until you have stitched on at least two days, and you will never be told you are behind. Home screen widgets show percent done and squares left on the chart you are working on; the medium size adds today's count and the estimate.
Your library
Every work in progress is a card with a miniature progress map, percent done and the last date you stitched. Finished charts are marked complete. One sample chart drawn in-house is included so you can try marking before you photograph anything.
What it tracks
Full counted cross stitch, where every stitch fills a square. Backstitch, fractional stitches, French knots and beads cannot be represented as squares and are not tracked; keep the printed chart beside you for those.
Stays on your phone
Chart photos and stitch counts live only on this device. No account is needed, and grid and symbol detection runs on the phone itself, so photos are not uploaded. The only way a chart leaves the device is a backup file you create yourself; restore it on a new phone, or delete everything from Settings. There is no sharing or publishing of charts. Stitchkeep is for stitching charts you bought from a designer, on your own phone.
Completely free. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription. Dark theme for long evening sessions, TalkBack support for marking and erasing stitches row by row, and your large text and reduced motion settings are respected.
Recent changes:
Stitchkeep Pro, a one-time purchase: Color Mode shows stitches in real floss colors from thread numbers, a row-by-row helper, multi-page PDF merging, floss inventory and shopping list, daily stats, unlimited charts. Scanning, marking and undo stay free.
Also: tablet and landscape layouts, a new practice chart, previews on library cards, export a progress image when you finish, a today's-stitches widget, adjustable mark darkness.
Arabic now reads right to left. Fixed a stuck launch screen.
