★★☆☆☆ After adding a photo to Fieldguide, a loading icon appears while you wait 10-20 seconds for the automated identification to pick its brain. Unfortunately Fieldguide identifies all of my plant and fungi photos as moths/butterflies (or fails to ID), which makes sense given the focus of its existing database. The app is a bit confusing--after it guesses the wrong ID, now what? There are three icons across the bottom. A clock, an eye, and a magnifying glass. Clicking the clock doesn't seem to do anything. I think the eye is for the automated ID results (clicking it brings me back to the beginning of the results). And the magnifying glass allows you to enter your own ID. One plant I observed appeared to be misplaced in the system's taxonomy (Ozothamnus>Antennaria>parlinii?). After you type in the proper identification, you are asked to add the date, location, figure type (living, specimen, type specimen, illustration), view (for plants--leaf, flower, fruit, seed, stem, bark, root, but you can only select one unfortunately), and gender (irrelevant for most plants). The date/location fields should auto-fill based on the photo metadata when available to save the user time.
