Hellweather: Gothic Weather

A gothic weather app for people who like their forecast dark: real weather, candlelight and stone.

Hellweather shows your real forecast over a city of iron and embers. An iron frame, a horned crest and candlelight hold the numbers: the temperature in carved stone, the hours ahead in a framed strip, five days below, and a plain line about the sky ("Clouds drift across the moon. Shadows wander.").

WHAT YOU GET
- The temperature, the sky now, humidity and wind, at a glance.
- The next hours, hour by hour, and the next five days with highs and lows.
- Embers, candle flicker and a swaying lantern, drawn live over the scene.
- Places: add any city or town, switch between them, and see each one's forecast.

OFFICIAL ALERTS (US)
National Weather Service warnings appear on the scene, with an optional notification when something severe is on its way. You can also ask for a heads-up before rain reaches your places (US radar).

Hellweather is free and has no ads. If you like it, you can leave a tip in Settings, in three sizes. A tip is just a thank-you: the app stays the same.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no ads, no trackers. The app asks only for your approximate location, rounds it to about a kilometre before fetching the forecast, and keeps your places and settings on your phone. Prefer not to share it? Choose a city by name.

Not a government app; it does not represent the National Weather Service or NOAA. Alerts come from weather.gov (https://www.weather.gov) and radar from NOAA's MRMS (https://www.nssl.noaa.gov/projects/mrms/).

Forecast data from MET Norway. Rain radar and US alerts from NOAA and the National Weather Service. There is a Tell a friend button in Settings.

Made for gothic, dark and spooky tastes, Halloween or any other night.

Recent changes:
On October 31 a carved pumpkin sits at the gargoyle's feet on the Weather screen. Its candle flickers, and a tap makes it flare. Each place keeps its own date, so a city far away has its own Halloween. Also: the swipe hint now names the Weather screen, and dates read right on phones set to another calendar or other digits.
