Makazii

Living in Tanzania can be challenging when landlords require 3, 6, or even 12 months' rent upfront. For many, collecting such a large sum at once is difficult, often leading to stress or housing instability. Makazii is an app that supports users in managing this challenge by offering a way to save for rent gradually.

With Makazii, users can set a savings goal based on their rent needs, such as TZS 300,000 for 3 months or TZS 1,200,000 for a year. The app allows starting with small amounts, like TZS 10,000 weekly, and tracks progress toward the total. This helps users prepare for rent payments without the pressure of an immediate lump sum.

Unexpected expenses, such as a night out or sudden bills, can disrupt finances. Makazii accommodates this by encouraging regular, small savings contributions. Users can also invite others, like friends or family, to contribute, which can help distribute the cost of rent over time—for example, sharing the load of a TZS 600,000 advance.

The app includes progress markers, such as reaching TZS 100,000 or TZS 500,000, to acknowledge savings milestones. These markers provide a sense of achievement. Integration with Mpesa ensures safe and convenient money deposits.

Additionally, Makazii links users to rental listings that match their savings progress. For instance, if a property requires a 6-month advance, users can save steadily toward that amount. The app’s straightforward interface works for people in cities like Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, or Arusha.
