Description
miniVAN is a mobile canvassing application that integrates with websites provided by NGP VAN. The miniVAN system allows users to export canvassing lists from VAN onto an iOS or Android device. Canvassers can then enter data into their device as they talk to people on their list. When the canvassers connect their device to the Internet over a wireless or cellular network, they can upload their data back to the VAN with the touch of a button.
Canvassing with miniVAN allows NGP VAN clients to spend more time and resources on actually contacting people instead of on data entry. What’s more, it virtually eliminates the lag time between collecting canvass results and putting that data to work.

I would watch a tutorial (twice) before I set up an account and expected to use minivan. It was easy to keep up with voters in one's turf. One drawback is that I cannot find a menu that allows me to click: mailed postcard?

I used this a lot during 2024 canvassing. Suggestions: I would love to be able to hide voters on the map, such as to filter out the houses that I've already done. When I zoom out, it's impossible to tell. Second, I would have loved to see my totals across multiple lists because it all became a blur. How many total houses did I visit? No idea. I think the rest of the stuff I would suggest is related to how campaigns set up response options. E.g., there needs to be a "can't find address" option.

Solid app. The maping needs a bit of work as it simply selects the next nearest house regardless of streets or paths but that is easily worked around. One feature it needs is the ability to choose between light and dark mode. During the day it's hard to read the map while in Dark mode which is my system default, and I would like to select light mode for this particular app without changing system default.

Recent Android update has broken the map. Every time I return to the map from a survey, it loads zoomed out to the whole country view and the filters are reset. Also, I used to be able to long press on a name and get a drop to mark "not home". Now I have to go into the survey every time.

Why is Lit Drop on the list of reasons I couldn't contact this person? It makes no sense. After I enter that they're not home, it should tell me if I should leave literature or not, based on their history - I shouldn't have to check their history manually and then decide whether to leave the lit or not. Once you click on a name, their address doesn't show at the top. I had to spend a lot of time clicking back and forth between tabs. The order of addresses had me backtracking, which wasted time.

So much potential but lots of issues and room for improvement. The good: Download lists w/o an account (list numbers). Viewing by map or household/people. The bad: I can mark an entire household as Lit Drop ONLY if you are in the household view. If you select a household from the map view you have to mark them individually if more than one person/address. The map itself had numbers far away from there actual location and or the actual house numbers on their map. The ugly: The "searching for location" loop it often gets stuck in when you try to load a new list.
